The first Railway Bricks at the National Railway Museum
Our very first Railway Bricks at the brilliant National Railway Museum in York was held this past weekend, and what a blast it was!
The museum received over 9000 visitors across the two days, with club members and invited guests exhibiting LEGO railway and related displays in the Great Hall and the newly refurbished Station Hall too.
Featured layouts include the northern club layout, Jamie’s Goosander Halt, Nicola’s Bridge Street display, Will and Ed’s Laterem Valley (Eddingham and Billingate), Great Ball Contraption from Steve, Jonathan and Sian’s brilliant vintage LEGO train display, Tunbrick Wells West, Peter’s railway, Mark’s artwork including the Japanese kanji for “electric train”, and Sarah’s Didcot display.
Our trophy winners
We like a little friendly competition, and had a small number of trophies for members to vote on. We also asked the public what their favourite model was (spoiler alert: trains didn’t win!).
Best heritage loco
The best heritage loco (something not currently running on the mainline) went to Adam and his “Lady of Lego”
Best modern train
The best modern train went to Shane’s Pride LNER Azuma, with some original work done by Lewis (it must have been his year!).
Best wagon
Best wagon at the event went to Lewis’ 6 wheeled United Diaries milk tanker, designed specially for the event and available to club members as a pre-orderable item. The real prototype is in the museum’s Great Hall!
Best scenery
Best scenery at the event went again to Lewis, for his lighthouse corner. The rainbow of beach huts are beautiful!
The public vote
The public vote went to the Great Ball Contraption – and Steve ran it valiantly all weekend with failing modules and ball spillages everywhere!
